Pastor's Biographical Sketch
Pastor James A. Waller, Sr., became the Pastor of Providence Baptist Church on Sunday, November 28, 1982. A man of God, who considered every person in Providence as "special"...with something special to offer"...an "Acre of Diamonds" in our own backyard.
In the eighties, his Vision was on people. "We love people...not things...We use things--not people." Pastor Waller preached the Body of Christ. Christ is the Head and we are all members with the varying gifts and offerings to bring.
In the nineties, his vision refocused to "Community Outreach"...taking a positive stance that would bring Providence Baptist Church into the Millennium as a church with God's people focused..."on doing God's work"..."a good man, and full of the Holy Ghost and of Faith"...(Acts 11:24).
Married to the former Marghuerite Pickett; father of two children: Ebony Alexis and James A., II.; Grandfather of Domi; father-in-law of Domino. Rev. Waller was born and reared in Wayne, PA, with his parents and two brothers. Both his father and one of his brothers were ministers.
In October, 1982, Brother Waller accepted the call as Pastor of Providence Baptist Church and effective July 1, 1983, he resigned his position as a middle manager with the IBM Corporation (where he had been employed for 17 years) to become full-time Pastor.
During Pastor Waller's pastorate many have been added to the roll and many ministries have been added to the Church. Pastor Waller led Providence Baptist Church to become the fourth largest contributor to Foreign Missions in the National Baptist Convention, U.S.A., Inc.

That I would have developed a community based church that produces a Christ-commanded product called disciples.
That I would have developed ministries and services that enhance the spiritual status of the community in which I serve.
That I would be recognized as a pastor who went beyond the expectations of those I serve.
That I would be recognized as one who has maintained religious and spiritual standards of the highest quality.
That I would have promoted a rewarding spiritual environment for those I serve.
That I would be recognized as one who has taught scriptures and, as a result, many lives have been transformed.
That I would have either purchased or led the construction of an educational facility for the purpose of training those who would be led my Christ.
That I would have either purchased or led the construction of a building that would be used as an emergency center in the Germantown section of Philadelphia.James A. Waller Sr.

Assistant to the Pastor
Timothy Collins

Timothy Madison Collins was born March 10, 1961, in Richmond, Virginia, to Alvin E. and Thelma S. Collins. Timothy grew up with his older brother, Alvin, Jr. and in a large extended family of loving and nurturing relatives. His maternal grandfather, Eugene Sims, was a great influence in his spiritual development, and at age 8, Tim accepted Christ as his Living Savior and was baptized at Grace Institutional Baptist Church.
Timothy attended Richmond Public Schools. After graduation from John F. Kennedy High School, he attended De Vry Institue of Technology, Atlanta, Georgia, and studied Electronic Engineering at J. Sargeant Reynolds Community College. While going to school in Atlanta, Tim started working with the Media Ministry of the Tabernacle Baptist Church, where he developed an interest in Christian media.
Having worked at several television stations in Virginia, Timothy has held the positions of director, producer, and weekend supervisor at WIVR Channel 6 in Richmond and WSET Channel 13 in Lynchburg. He also served with WWBT Channel 12 in Richmond, where he was the director of the PM newscast.
Tim has obtained a certificate in personal care, church administration, church history, preaching and worship. On April 22, 1995, Rev. Timothy preached his initial sermon at Saint Paul's Baptist Church and received his license to preach. Rev. Timothy also attended Virginia Union University School of Theology.
Rev. Timothy was the Tender Loving Care (TLC) director at St. Paul's Baptist Church. His involvement with St. Paul's included the Media and Singles Ministries. His other affiliations include captain, YMCA Planning Seeds of Hope Annual Giving Campaign; head judge of an essay contest for elementary school children; member, Public Relations and Meet and Greet Committees of the Gold Bowl Festival. Rev. Timothy is also owner/president, Visions Inc. (a consultant, Christian Media Ministry); vice president, Stadium Civic Association; and consultant, Christian Media Ministry (establishes tape and video ministries in churches). Past affiliations include Ebony Prince Organization and Together Incorporation of Neighborhood Black Men. Timonthy Collins had recently launched his website at www.timcollinsministries.com. This site focuses on spreading the gospel through mass media.
Rev. Timothy's hope for the future is to own his own television station programming on family values from birth to death. His most proud moment is his bonding with God and realizing that he is a "Called Child of God" which has led to this most humbling experience.
Rev. Timothy has been with Providence since September 2000. He leads three Bible Study classes and assists the Pastor with his duties. Rev. Tim, as he is sometimes affectionately called, has brought much joy to Provience!
